Composite Cans and Cylinder Boxes for Coffee and Powdered Drinks

Coffee, cocoa and functional powders are sold on aroma, and aroma is the first thing an ordinary pack gives away. ArtasPack manufactures composite cans and printed cardboard tubes for roasters, powder blenders and co-packers who want the barrier of a metal can with the shelf presence of paper. An aluminium foil or PE liner creates a sealed atmosphere inside the body, while a heat sealed peel-off membrane closes the pack on your line and a metal or board lid recloses it in use. Diameters run from 32 mm to 195 mm, so a 250 g bean format, a 1 kg catering pack and a single serve sample all sit on the same construction. Used as an outer pack, the cylinder gives you 360 degrees of uninterrupted print.

Why a composite can for coffee and powdered drinks?

1. Barrier that holds the aroma in

Coffee, malt drinks and functional powders are hygroscopic, and moisture and oxygen are what destroy them. The aluminium foil and PE liner wound into the body creates a hermetic atmosphere inside the can, cutting water vapour ingress and the oxygen transfer that drives staling and oxidation. The board wall insulates against light and temperature swings, and an outer BOPP film protects the print against scuffing and humidity.
Wall thickness of 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm adds crush resistance, so the pack holds its shape through palletised freight and parcel networks.

2. Paperisation instead of plastic

Replacing a plastic tub only works if the new pack holds the same shelf life. A wound board body with a thin functional liner removes most of that plastic mass while keeping the barrier, and the board recycles in normal paper streams. Paper is available under FSC® certification (C184527) from responsibly managed forests, and the construction is designed to meet the requirements of the EU’s PPWR in the markets you export into. Consumers also keep these cans: reused as a kitchen storage jar, the pack keeps your brand on the counter long after the coffee is gone.

3. A 360 degree shelf canvas

The cylinder gives you one continuous print surface with no corner cutting through the artwork, which suits a category where origin, roast profile and brewing notes all compete for space. Through our printing partners you can specify offset CMYK or Pantone, metallised board, hot foil stamping in gold, silver or copper, embossing and debossing, spot UV and soft touch lamination. The closure is part of the design: a tinplate lid, a telescopic board lid or a rolled edge paper lid each change how the pack reads on shelf and how it opens in the hand.

Materials, certification and quality

ArtasPack has wound cardboard tubes in Hadımköy, Istanbul since 1986, in a 6,000 m² plant twenty minutes from Istanbul Airport, with capacity up to 40,000 tubes per day. Winding, labelling, die cutting and assembly are done in house; printing and finishing of printed paper are handled by our printing partners. Paper is sourced under FSC® chain of custody (C184527), adhesives are water based, and inks are chosen from low-VOC, mineral oil free ranges suitable for food packaging. Components separate easily, so the pack enters the paper recycling stream without special handling.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, when a barrier liner is specified. For direct food contact we line the inside of the body with aluminium foil or PE, so whole beans, ground coffee, cocoa, instant blends, spices and protein powder can be filled straight into the can. A heat sealed peel-off membrane closes the pack on your line and the metal or board lid recloses it in use. Send us the fill weight and bulk density and we will confirm the liner build with the quotation.

With the standard two stage method. Freshly roasted coffee releases CO2 for days, so you fill a valved flexible pouch first and place that pouch inside the composite can. The valve manages gas release while the can carries the crush resistance, the light barrier and the premium presentation. If you prefer a single pack, a one-way degassing valve can be fitted into the can body or the lid instead, and we specify the position with you before tooling.

The minimum order quantity is 1,000 pieces per design and size, and lead time starts at four weeks from artwork approval. Diameters run from 32 mm to 195 mm with height cut to your fill volume, so micro roasters and industrial fillers work from the same tooling range. Send us the format, the quantity and your launch date and we will confirm both the price and the schedule in the quotation.

Yes. We send the die line and cutting template for your chosen diameter and height and help your designer position artwork on it, including bleed, seam overlap and the lid wrap. Printed and unprinted samples are available so you can run a filling and sealing trial on your own line, check the fit of your scoop or pouch and judge print quality and board texture in real light before committing to the production run.
